Rev. Brian Johnston

Pastor Johnston was raised in California before going to Concordia University, St. Paul where he studied Christian Education. Upon graduation he enrolled in seminary at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne. Afterward, he spent 8 years serving in the US Army as a Chaplain. He came to Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville in December 2022. He enjoys playing guitar, watching sports, and taking hikes.

Nikki Books

Preschool Director/Teacher

Nikki Books is from Springfield, Illinois and received a Bachelor Degree of Speech Communication from Eastern Illinois University. She has been teaching at Trinity Lutheran Preschool since 2013. Having a heart for teaching teaching she began working with children at her home congregation as a young girl, worked with Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and as a substitute teacher. She enjoys the challenge of transitioning students from home life to school life and help students adjust to new surroundings to be prepared for kindergarten while being able to teach them about God. She has been married since 2005 and has two terrific kids. In her free time she enjoys home cooking, traveling, gardening, bike riding, music, and spending quality time with friends, family, and her pet cat.

Julie Kohl

Preschool Teacher Assistant

Julie has been working with children for over 24 years. She went to preschool at Trinity and now is proud to have been working as the Preschool Teacher Assistant for nine years. She loves teaching and having new experiences each year with students. She ensures that each child is supported and encouraged to achieve their full potential. She has been married to her husband since 2008 and they have a teenage daughter. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, baking, and tending to her garden and family farm.
